Beyond the obvious

Coaching with insight

About me

My name is Alan Gibney. I trained as a lawyer and was called to the Bar in Ontario. I later worked as a management consultant for DMR and IBM and then started a consultancy for creative problem solving. With a small team, I founded Freshpet, a pet food company that is now listed on the NASDAQ. From there I pivoted to creative writing and published a novel with HarperCollins called I Carried You Home. I returned to the business sphere to found a pet food company that makes innovative, natural pet treats. I completed the Executive Coaching Program at the Rotman School of Management. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation and follow its standards and code of ethics. I'm passionate about coaching.

  • Leadership

  • Executive performance

  • Personal and professional transitions

  • Creativity and creative blocks

  • Communication and interpersonal skills

  • Introversion and its challenges

  • Work-life integration

  • Living a healthier lifestyle

  • Other challenges

Areas of focus

My approach is solution-focused and action-focused, not theory-focused. We are looking for success, not a diagnosis. Together we question assumptions, invent new approaches, and determine actions you can take. I rely on intuition and creativity to help you find a new path.
